Tulsi (sacred basil - ommune
buneiform)
The oldest pujas are basil in Kerala temples. Tulsi name is inappropriate. In the
mythology, many columns and scriptures (Vedas) point to the importance of Tulsi
in religious practices. The legends such as Vishnu Purana, Bhagata Puranam,
Devi Bhagwata Purana and Padma Poonar illustrate the glory and worship of
basil. Tulsi is regarded as a deity and as a partner of Lord Vishnu. Tulsi is
worshiped as Tulsi Devi or Vrinda Devi. In Kerala, a family without tulasitha
is considered to be incomplete. Karthikai Month (October-November) is famous
for the Tulsi Puja.
Koovalam - Vilwam, Shivadruma,
Tripatra (Aegle marmelos)
Kovalam is a holy tree for Hindus. Cow's leaves are mainly
used in Shiva temples. It is used when worshiping Lord Shiva. The leaves of
Kovalam are similar to the three eyes of Lord Shiva, so the name of the
Tipitra. Legends such as Shiva Puranar, Skanda Purana, Devi Bhagwatara Purana
and Padma Poonar illustrate the tree's pride and worship. It is planted in
temples of temples.
Thamara
(Lotus - Nelumbo nucifera)
Lotus

worship. The Devi Ambatala (Devi Car) of the Guruvayur Temple is famous.
Chemparathy (Hibiscus rosasinensis)
In Sanskrit it is called Japukusam. There are more
than 10000 species of Chemparta in the world. Reddish purple flowers are
commonly used in devi temples, especially in the Bhadrakali temples. The
flowers of light (white, rose, purple, yellow and orange) are used for the
pujas of other deities.
Nandyaarvattam
Nandeeshwara is used in each temple. The flowers are
white in color. Two different forms - Imambiri and Vallambiari temples are
used. Nandiviram is used for the
Saraswathi Puja.
Thumpa (Leucas aspera)
Thumb
flowers are very small and white.
They are used for the Shiva Puja and Worship in Worship on Wolf Day. Tampa Mala
(Thumba Malai) is an important place in Kottiyoor temple.
